Holy Trinity Church is a large, gothic-revival church dating from 1878. It is blessed with good acoustics and a splendid three manual pipe organ with 47 speaking stops. The organ was rebuilt in 1981.

Studies at the University of Edinburgh and then at the University of Strathclyde yielded a couple of useful degrees. I wanted to teach, but the death of my mother who ran a well-known firm of hairdressers in Stirling, distracted me for a time, and I ran this business for seven years before promotion in teaching forced me to chose.

At the same time, an enlightened headmaster at an early school, having heard that I was a fencer, persuaded me to run a fencing club. Such was the success of this club that Denny High School became one of the top fencing schools in Scotland, and I went on to coach at a very high standard. I became Treasurer and President of Scottish Fencing, and for twelve years, President of Commonwealth Fencing.

Although a pianist from an early age, I was one of the first pupils of a County Orchestral scheme (very much ahead of its time in the 1950s). I became a good violinist, leading a county orchestra and later conducting a local amateur orchestra before pressure of work forced me to concentrate my musical activities on church work in Bridge of Allan, Dunblane, Falkirk and finally Stirling.
