Teaching Career
Secondary school teacher at Bannockburn High (then Bannockburn Junior Secondary), Denny High (firstly as an assistant teacher and latterly as Head of English) and, from 1978 to 1998, Assistant Rector (headmaster) at Wallace High School, Stirling. Additional interests were in drama (with extensive experience producing school shows and operas) and educational reprographics (piloting the use of offset litho, photocopying and computerised graphics in the local education area.) Fencing started at Denny High and spread to Wallace High after promotion there. Both schools won trophies as top fencing schools in Scotland and one or two former pupils remain in international Scottish and English fencing teams.
The ex-
After leaving teaching in 1998, opened travel consultancy. Worked for and latterly bought over & became managing director of DA Tours in Fife. Many happy years spent learning an entirely new craft and devising & operating tours all over the world.
Developed a blood cancer during 2006 and closed down DA Tours at end of 2007. As reported earlier in this web site, involvement in the travel trade continues through PIP Consulting, but at a lower and entirely manageable level.
